How To: Exercise-Proof Your Make-Up Routine

Don’t want to go to the gym totally bare-faced? We feel you! Whether it’s the prospect of bumping into your hot spin instructor or just an unwavering love of make-up, you should feel free to sweat however you like. But that doesn’t mean any make-up is fair game! We’ve picked out the best products to create a look that’s safe, and subtle, enough to wear in boot camp or yoga class.

1.Skin

Instead of applying a BB cream or foundation, which can clog pores and wind up smeared all over your towel, opt for an anti-shine cream like REN Clarimatte™ T-Zone Balancing Gel Cream. The lightweight, gel formula keeps oil in check and blends seamlessly into your skin.

2. Blemishes

To camouflage dark circles and blemishes, spot treat with a moisturising cream concealer that will stay put, like Miracle Skin Transformer Treat & Conceal.

3. Cheeks

All that sweating can turn powder blushes into a clownish mess, so opt for blendable formulas, like Benefit’s Majorette, which give skin a soft glow. Exercising will give your skin a natural flush, so downgrade to a slightly lighter shade than normal to avoid looking too rosy.

4. Brows

Well-groomed arches are an easy way to look instantly polished! The Pixi by Petra Natural Brow Duo glides on easily to fill sparse spots and create definition, and the tinted gel keeps everything in place so those brows won’t budge during your sweat session.

5. Eyeliner

To make sure you’re the only one doing the running, apply a thin coat of waterproof liner, like the stila smudge stick waterproof eye liner, as close to your lash line as possible (no wings!). Greys, navys and deep brown shades offer great definition without looking as harsh – or as obvious – as a dramatic black shade.

6. Mascara

Use a water-resistant mascara, like the Lord & Berry Alchimia High Performance Mascara, and skip the curler which can leave lashes looking artificially crimped. Instead, blink lashes onto your knuckle after applying mascara, gently pushing upwards to guide lashes to dry in a naturally extended direction.

7. Lips

Skip the bold lipsticks (which are prone to smudge when exercising, even with the mightiest primer) and opt for a subtly tinted lip balm. Benefit Chachabalm’s hydrating formula soothes dry lips while bringing out your natural lip shade.
